Alice is quite easygoing and good-natured. She has a maternal quality to her, and a trusting nature. She loves fashion, and enjoys spoiling people. There's quite a childlike innocence to her, and strong optimism even if she isn't particularly naive. She thinks for herself. She's playful and graceful, and she likes to dance. She could be called a free spirit, and she tends to put Jasper before everyone else. She's not selfish as such, but she has a strong survival instinct, and can defend herself even if she isn't as serious a fighter as her brothers or lover.

Alice was born in 1901 in Cornwall, South-West England. She was a Muggleborn witch, and a Seer, but her superstitious parents rejected the idea of witchcraft and her visions as evil, and Alice's younger sister Cynthia was a Muggle, who was influenced by her parents' opinion of her sister. Alice's parents kept Alice out of sight and attempted to have her exorcised by priests, convinced that a demon was inside her, but there was no change in her abilities. Alice remained trapped in her own house, and barely saw her own sister, as their mother and father believed she would infect Cynthia with evil. She began to believe herself that there was something wrong with her, and that she was a bad person.

When Alice was 13, an adult wizard named Adam - who used to teach at Hogwarts - heard about Alice and went to her house, posing as a priest. He persuaded Alice to escape with him, explaining that she wasn't evil or insane as she'd been led to believe. She never saw her parents or sister again, but would miss them despite their treatment of her.

Adam taught Alice the aspects of magic she didn't know, and enrolled her as a transfer 3rd year at Hogwarts. She remained there until graduation - naturally becoming a prodigy in Divination - after which she began further studies of witchcraft and fortune telling at (Adam's) home. She travelled around Europe with Adam, fighting a growing attraction to him, when eventually disaster struck. A vampire named James killed Adam, and although Alice narrowly escaped, he began tracking her. She found an old vampire friend of Adam's, who changed her to protect her from James. After becoming a vampire, Alice forgot most of her human life. She lived alone, working here and there, mostly with fashion and literature, troubled by her thirst for blood.

During a stay in Italy, she was taken to see Aro, who tried to persuade her to take her place amongst the Volturi. Alice was unnerved by them, and felt extreme dislike for them. Eventually, she began seeing visions of Jasper, and searched for him obsessively. She found him at last during the 1980's, and together they sought out the "vegetarian" Cullens, whom she had forseen, and became part of the bizarre foster family. When the Cullens moved to Scotland and Jasper enrolled at Hogwarts, it triggered a memory of her time at the school. Out of curiosity and missing Jasper, she also joined.
